New Jersey iGaming August Numbers show Tropicana is Rising

It seems that the summer doldrums are behind New Jersey as their online gaming operation experienced a revenue increase. The state’s online casino and poker sites generated $10.52 million in August, which is up 4.3% from July’s total of $10.07 million. Breaking things down further, August online casino revenue was $8.3m while poker revenue was $2.22m.

Individual Operator Performances in August

  • Party Borgata – Increased from $3.18m in July to $3.48m in August.
  • Caesars/WSOP – Stayed the same, making $2.71m in both July and August.
  • Golden Nugget – Dropped from $944.8k to $787.8k.
  • Tropicana/Virgin – Increased from $1.96m to $2.26m.
  • Betfair/Trump Plaza – Increased from $676k to $709k.
  • Ultimate/Trump Taj Mahal – Increased from $587k to $602k.

Tropicana continues performing well

While Caesars and Borgata have commanded most of the attention in New Jersey’s iGaming market, Tropicana is starting to become a major player as well. This seems to defy logic because Tropicana has less land-based customers to market to, and they only offer online casino games. That said, they must be doing something right to keep up with the giants.

New Jersey iGaming revenue should continue increasing

The end of summer generally brings more revenue for online gaming sites. So New Jersey can look forward to continued growth from now until the end of winter. The market hit $10.5 million in August, which is certainly a nice base heading into the colder months.

Besides seasonal trends, New Jersey iGaming traffic should also increase thanks to improved payment processing and software packages being brought up to international standards. The latter has been a thorn in the market’s side, as evidenced by Partypoker NJ’s Garden State Super Series shutting down over tech issues. So all-around software improvement is key to growth.

PokerStars will also increase overall revenue

As has been frequently reported, PokerStars is close to entering New Jersey. They are far and away the global leaders in online poker – both in terms of traffic and product. So they’ll bring a world-class presence to an operation that has seen its share of struggles. Furthermore, we can expect the media attention alone to generate additional customers in the coming months.
