Since being founded in 2005, the Poker Players Alliance has done an admirable job of fighting for Americans’ rights to play online poker. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, we’re still at a standstill with only three states offering legal iPoker to this date. So the PPA can use all the help they can get to battle the fiendish Sheldon Adelson’s anti-online gaming campaign and help the game spread across the US. And recently, famed poker pro Andrew ‘Luckychewy’ Lichtenberger lent his hand to the lobbying group. Let’s discuss Lichtenberger’s role in this effort along with what it could mean for the PPA.
Drumming up Donations
In order to provide their best lobbying efforts for iPoker, the PPA needs money to operate. So Luckychewy is using his reach in the poker world to drum up funds and support for the movement. Here’s a look at some tweets that Lichtenberger has sent about the matter:
“Met with @ppapoker marketing director Drew Lesofski in DC today. He is incredibly passionate about fighting for poker”
“If any pros want to get involved catch up with me as I’ll be meeting with Drew again to organize events to raise awareness for online poker”
“Poker has granted me many positive experiences and I look forward to help fundraising for the @ppapoker at our events with other pros to make a positive change and share the game we love!”
With over $5.8 million in live tournament winnings and another $2.2 million in online poker winnings, Lichtenberger has definitely earned respect within the poker community. So tweeting his 22k followers certainly won’t hurt US online poker’s cause as the PPA battles to raise awareness (of Adelson’s lies) and get more states to regulate the game.
Where to give
Assuming you’re as passionate about legal US iPoker as we are, then you might be interested in giving a donation. If this is indeed the case, you can visit here to give money and help the cause: http://theppa.org/donate.
The different donation amounts include $10 (ante), $20 (small blind), $40 (big blind), $80 (raise), $120 (re-raise) and $500 (all-in). Okay, so maybe the All-In option takes some building up to, but a couple of these other options are pretty reasonable. And really, the PPA would appreciate any amount that’s given to boost their chances of spreading online poker further.
